1996 Jamusons Run Coonawarra Reserve

Bottle Shot Label In Glass

As a first write up I started with a bottle of wine a customer had given me. She works for Foster Wine Group and wanted to give me a “good bottle of wine,” and in this she succeeded. The Coonawarra was one of my first good bottles of Australian wine. And I wanted us to do it by the book. Well, since I have yet to take a class, or really read a book about wine drinking I first smelled the cork. I usually can tell a lot about the wine from the cork. And in this case it smelled really good. In drinking I found it a bit too tangy/sour. It tasted good but it had a bite. I will say it paired very good with a couple slices of Marie Calender cherry pie though. And the aftertaste was good… a nice tart grape taste. I thought hard about this and I didn’t taste any chocolate or “smooth” flavors in it… but it was very fruity.

Karen: Wasn’t very strong, was kind of bland. It smelled really good, it went down easy… was very good. It tasted like good wine.

Hello Fellow Non Wine Snobs

So give a man a bottle of wine and he’ll drink for a day.  Tell a man about a great bottle of wine and he’ll drink good forever.

My name is Patrick Havens and I plan to take time from blogging at Living in the Whine Country to give occasional reviews of different wines I’ve run across.  Living in the Napa Valley I come across a lot of wine, but I’m too poor to enjoy the more expensive bottles. So I’ll be mainly reviewing the working man affordable wines.  So sit back,, visit from time to time and you may see a bottle of wine that interests you.
